Triangle Neighborhood Association

Meeting Summary

1.               The normal monthly meeting of the Triangle Neighborhood Association was called to order by Howard Sholl, TNA President, at 7:03 AM.  It was held in the Warner School library. Twenty persons were present at the start of the meeting.  Four joined the meeting in progress.

2.               Captain Harris of the Wilmington Police Department provided a report to the group:

·       The inauguration of recently elected city officials will take place on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 6:30 PM.  It will be held at the Grand.

·       Within the last monthly cycle, there were three alarms and a few cases of criminal mischief.  A few cases of robbery were reported.  Overall the level of crime is not significant.  A copy of the monthly crime report will be sent to the membership via the yahoo group by Howard Sholl.   A copy would be placed in the yahoo group file, also.

·       Police Academy class will graduate in February.

·       Two wanted fliers were passed through the group.  Both were for adult males.

·       Photos of individuals under 18 years of age cannot be circulated.

·       Cpl. Joe Miller, community police officer, was present.

·       Sgt. Tom Kane was present, also.

·       Marla Garris announced that she has been spearheading a program with juveniles to interest them in law enforcement.  She will be presenting more details in the spring.

3.               Howard Sholl presented a few observations to the group:

·       No elected officials are present tonight.

·       Most persons know of the house fire in the 2100 block of Baynard.  The frame remains standing.

·       PNC bank account was established to receive donations.  The individuals have temporary housing in Greenville.  The family intends to rebuild. Those who are inclined may still send checks to the PNC account.  The information was published through a yahoo group email.

·       A new trash schedule will be mailed to residences.  It will contain the trash collection day exceptions, due to holidays.

·       City will not pick up materials to be recycled, if plastic bags are used.  The City, however, has provided brown paper bags for yard waste.  These are free.

·       The City will continue to use the leaf vacuum machines, also.

·       Tom Baker informed the group that neighborhood watch signs need to be purchased.  A voice vote approved the expenditure.

·       Pat Joyce will continue to make phone calls to remind persons of the times they have committed to specific Neighborhood Watch shifts.

·       Programs at Hanover Church provide food and clothing for those in need.  Any food brought to a TNA meeting will be taken to the church for distribution.

·       Howard will talk with the pastor at Hanover Church to get additional details.

·       Question from the floor: Has TNA ever donated to a family?  Answer: There is no history of such donations.  The community has responded well.  The displaced family is not destitute.

·       Some individual have requested to make presentations at TNA meetings.  There has been a reluctance to allow those interested in just making a “pitch” to speak.  The normal time allotted for a presentation would be ten minutes.

·       Question from the floor: Can someone provide details on the car crash of last month?   Answer:  An individual was attempting to avoid a DUI (Driving under the Influence) checkpoint.  As a result, a crash occurred with the driver was seriously injured, and the passengers injured to a lesser degree.

4.               Jean Mills, the President of the North Brandywine Village Association, attended the meeting as an observer.

5.               The shortness of the meeting was remarked without complaint by a few participants.
