Minutes from Tri-Angle Neighborhood Association.

 

President Howard Sholl announced that Father James Dalton was taken to the hospital on Monday. We are circulating a get well card to be sent to him.

The meeting started promptly at 7:00 pm .

The Department of License and Inspection issued an instant ticket to a  neighbors due who put her trash out early. The homeowner was going away and wanted to make sure that the trash was picked up. Please be mindful of the laws.

Friends of Wilmington Park water station during the Delaware Marathon on May 18th needs volunteers from 7 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. at the Market Street Bridge.

Police report: Photos of individuals were circulated in the meeting of persons wanted by the Wilmington and Philadelphia police.

The Grand Prix will be in our area starting on May 16 th and May 17th  - traffic in the park and on 18th ST will be disrupted during the late afternoon and early evening on May 16th. On Saturday, May 17th, John Rago added that Wilmington will have a special celebration on Market Street Mall during the race.

Police Report: Crime Stats are available. UPS packages are still being left unattended and stolen. Check with neighbors to see if you can have your package left with someone that will be home. Watch out for your neighbors. The items are being carried in the recycle bins by thieves, so be mindful of any suspicious behavior.

Councilman Norman Griffith reported: On Saturday May 10, 2008 our district will hold its annual Clean-Up Day. Remember to comply with the signs that limit parking for street sweeping. Please place your trash out on Friday May 9, after 6 p.m. and the city will pick it up on Saturday morning. Volunteers are needed to assist with putting trash in the trucks. Report to the Warner parking lot at 8:30 a.m. If there is a need, additional pickups will be made on Monday May 12th to get any remaining items not placed on the trucks from Saturday. We need volunteers at the TNA garden at 1:00 p.m. Bring gloves and equipment.

There is a project underway at Salesianumm that will need the neighborhood associations’ approval. More information at the June meeting.

The renaming of Bayard Stadium to Al Cartwright at Bayard Stadium is under discussion. Mr. Cartwright was a newspaper personality and is about to turn 91 years old. He currently lives in Maryland . City Council must make a resolution renaming the stadium in order for this to take place. Stay tuned.

Wrapping up the council report Mr. Griffith stated the budget hearings are over and that many departments still have money left over from last year’s budget.

Police retention and recruitment are the big items that must be addressed. There may be a task force put together for the brainstorming of ideas on this matter soon.

 Howard Sholl: The new list of nominations for officers is almost ready. We will have the matter addressed at the June meeting.

No news on Prestige Academy . The Red Clay School Board, as noted in the newsletter, will hold a meeting on May 12th concerning a new feeder pattern. Please come out to voice your concerns. Tom Baker made a motion to address this matter and Marsha Walters seconded the motion.

One member noted that a problem with the males leaving the basketball court is cause for alarm. The WPD is aware of the problem and will watch out for disruptions.


There were two problem homes mentioned during the meeting. On Monday May 12, 2008 the house located at 800 W 22nd St. (Harriett Savitch) will have a hearing in court at 9:30 a.m. , any interested party may attend. The house located at 2002 N. Franklin Street is being addressed by Councilman Charles “Bud” Freel. 

Pat Joyce mentioned problems concerning sidewalks, dangerous behavior by parents on motorized toys and cars parked in the neighborhood “For Sale” signs on them.  The police and members took note.

Red light cameras are being placed on the southbound lane of Concord Pike at the intersection with Broom Street and on the West bound lane of Lovering Ave at the intersection with Augustine Cutoff.  

The house at 2307 Bayard Blvd. is for sale. Homeowner (Carmelita) made a $1,000 finders fee offer.  

John Rago: Please call Sen. Harris McDowell and St. Rep. Dennis Williams to say “Vote no on bills that would take away Eminent Domain in Delaware. The bills if passed would make it harder for us to get homeowners and businesses to clean up their properties.

TNA is thanking the Community Watch volunteers with a party at Gallucios on May 15th.
