Meeting called to order at 7:05 pm by Meg Hudson.

Crime statistics from Tom Baker: for December. 8
incidents. 4 criminal mischief
(punctured tires on 24th St), 4 thefts (outside house), no
burglaries reported. A lot of tire
punctures going on in the City elsewhere as well, according to Captain
Maggitti.

- Tire slashings
are continuing. Police have
done overnight surveillance, but so far no leads.
- 4
people have been arrested for armed robberies in area. Robberies have been occurring at
convenience stores, dry cleaners around 6pm in the evening. Tis the season due to wearing
heavy clothing.
- DE
State Police want us to be on the lookout for large older model car, red
in color, Cadillac or Lincoln in connection to burglaries in Miller Rd.
area. Shooting at 2111

- Now
only one officer assigned to our area – others have been reassigned to
hotter areas. Malcolm
Stoddard, call 576-3800 ext .6067 (currently his Sgt.’s number, Sgt. Tom
Kane).
- Hakim
Ali (Craig Thornton) is back around.
He usually asked to do work in yard, but has been known for many
thefts.
- Report
all suspicious people to police.
- New
person in department to work on crime prevention.

Reports from elected officials: John Rago, mayor’s office, communications director. Three updates.
- In
area of public safety, child development community policing (CDCP) had
been instituted and is in place. When crime is committed where police feel
it may be helpful, police engage social services to help resolve family
situation to avoid future crimes.
- Incident
ticketing – hope it will be ready to be functioning by July 1st. Tickets issues for trash
violations, etc.
- Recycling.
Pilot recycling program to begin
for 5 months in 2006.
Program is called the Recycle Bank. Won’t need to separate recyclables, use single
receptacle supplied by the City.
We get monetary credit for recycling. Pilot program locations will be announced soon. Possibly may move to one trash day
for normal trash, 2nd day for recycling – to maintain current
costs. If pilot is
successful, may kick off by end of 2006 or beginning of 2007.
- There
are opportunities for
participation on the Clean Wilmington Committee to assist community
clean up programs.

President’s report:
- Feb
meeting: speaker from Recorder
of Deeds Office, Mike Koslowski.
- Copies
of crime stats are available.
- Trash
pickup schedule available.
- Blue
Ball news available – 202 reopened, dairy that’s been under restoration
will house banquet facilities.
- Kris
Chalfant will organize Progressive Dinner again in April. Proposed dates 1st or 8th
of April. She
will set a date by next month’s meeting.
- Neighborhood
Watch. Jim Carey has resigned
the position for organizing.
Meg is looking for a volunteer to take over organization. Tim Sharpe has offered to take over Neighborhood Watch
temporarily.
