- Formerly assigned to our neighborhood in 1998-1999. Now re-assigned
to our neighborhood as a Captain in new program. Will serve as liaison
between us and the Police Department. He does not have operational control,
but he can help us with communications with the Dept.
- Heather and Chris are still assigned to our neighborhood.
- There will be 20-30 officers in new academy beginning in July (completing
around Christmas time).
- Police Chief wants as many police in uniform on the street as possible.
Now 12-15 more officers (detectives, vice, etc.) on street than previously.
- Once a week a large, oint task force operating -- cooperating with
county and state police. City police also reciprocate with the other
forces.
- Safety check points instituted -- to check for licenses, registrations,
etc.
- At least once a month DUI checkpoints.
- Feel free to call or email with questions.
- Lt. Ruth Townsend also assigned here with him.
- Crime data for this neighborhood in past 3 months - rash of armed robberies
(Wash St. Market, murder at 26th and Jefferson.
- If see problems with a particular property, call police and provide
specific address.
- Reports from Elected Officials
- Norman Griffiths, City Council.
- Budget hearings start next week (4 meetings in total). Important that
public attend. Scheduled during the day from 12 noon - 5pm on Wednesday
13th April, and Thursday 14th April. Key departments
will be grilled by Finance committee. Continue through May. Budget
must be done by second council meeting in May.
- Traffic control. Loren asked Bud Freel to check the regulation book --
should be able to add sign indicating "Cross Traffic Does Not Stop".
She will follow-up with Dave Blankenship. Two-way stop blade has been added
to the stop signs.
- House Bill 32: Senate added amendment to bill to say City would go along
with residency change if residents vote on referendum. Passed in Senate,
sent back to House who then stripped amendment. Outcome still unclear.
- Operation clean Sweep: May 7th. Meet trash trucks at 8:30 am
in schoolyard.
- Friends of Wilmington Parks, Mike Porro.
- 325 members. Dedicated to maintaining and re-establishing historic
structures in parks. Here tonight to let us know that they are putting
together a team to rebuild the Sugar Bowl Pavilion over-looking the park
near the zoo and the Washington Street bridge. Now have raised $100,000
-- need up to $600,000 total. Hope to get started later in the year.
Many architects and craftsmen are donating their time. Building replica
of what was there years ago. In its day, bands played on Sunday afternoons.
Have support of Wilmington State Parks. Will be starting a membership
blitz in our area -- looking for individual members -- in addition to
our neighborhood membership. Membership starts at $25 per year -- 501C
organization -- completely tax deductible.
- Voted for group membership. Voted to join at $200 level.
- Voted to give gift certificate to Bob Kreston as token of appreciation
for his support over the years for all our neighborhood events.
- Maureen -- we will be writing letter from the TNA to DelDOT about flashing
yellow light on Concord Ave. so that it will be timed for higher speed (not
35mph).
- Elections in May. Need nominations for new President and for new Secretary.
- Frank nominated Meg for president. Loren nominated Howard for vice-president.
Both agreed to run. Still need nomination for secretary. Current officers
will look for nominee.
- School board elections to be held on May 10th. Two positions
are open. Our polling place is Warner School. We'll try to have them come
to the May meeting.
