November TNA Meeting
1 November 2004
1.
Norman Griffiths, City Council
- Please be sure to vote! 7am – 8pm. Can’t go in with political paraphernalia.
- City is looking for ways to raise revenue without raising property taxes.
If we had power to annex parts of county contained within City, could increase
our revenue. Assessments haven’t been done since ‘80s. His committee
(finance committee) will be very busy with revenue issues.
- Meeting this afternoon. Public Safety Committee. New legislation requiring
photographing of anyone caught selling or purchasing drugs at time of arrest
is being considered. Will sunset this law after 12 months if determined
not effective. These photographs will be published – initially on Channel
22, perhaps later on News Journal. Will come before full City Council this
Thursday. Loren suggested that neighborhood associations write letters
to paper. How do we feel about
this law? In favor: 12, Against: 10. Abstention: 3. Norman will consider
as he votes on Thursday.
- City is embarking on siren system – includes siren and voice. Closest
one to our neighborhood: 18th & Baynard Blvd. We come in
on issue of zoning. Poles need to be 55’ high. Cost: $17000 per location,
covered now by federal grant.
2.
Police report. Chris: 23 false alarms. Unfounded calls for gunshots
on N. Broom St. and burglary in progress. Craig Thornton (Hakim) was picked
up last month. Should be out of circulation for at least 6 months. Ray Rippa
is around. Have been some complaints about speeding on Broom St. and this
is also a problem on Baynard. Chris will put up a speed board at the Baynard
location as a deterrent.
3.
New Business: Loren
- TNA Website: Loren suggests we either have one that’s up to date, or
not have one again. Fr. Dalton offered Sallies students to work on the
website.
- Loren has heard that a family is wanted – middle/working class family
– to host on “The Simple Life”. If interested in hosting, contact Tracy
Hood 818-989-8964.
- Coat drive will run again this year.
- Community dance lessons. Any interest? Loren has proposed we go as a
group – to Crystal Ballroom – on a Friday night for dance lesson. A good
number of people were interested. Loren will arrange a date.
- Caroling this year. Is anyone interest in organizing? Kris will help
to set up host houses, but can’t be there to run the entire evening. Probably
Sunday the 19th of December. If want to volunteer, please call
Kris Chalfant.
- Special leaf pickup for our neighborhood only. Everyone should put leaves
out into street – don’t bag them. Loren will request pickup on Monday November
22nd.
- L&I has changed rules for variances (house additions, etc.). To apply
for a variance, now have to send certified letters to adjoining properties.
You will get notice from L&I if you are an adjoining property.
- Red Clay: construction has not started. Loren and Kris will draft a letter
to inquire about status.
